Athletic Camps are led by accomplished US varsity coaches who focus on developing well-rounded student-athletes. Whether players are just starting out or training for the next level, they will build skills, gain confidence, and learn from their team. Each camp is supportive while challenging athletes to advance their game with the mindset and discipline that fuel lasting growth.

Basketball Camps

  • Junior Basketball Camp

    An introduction to the game for the youngest boys and girls, with instruction on 7-foot hoops. Foundational skill development is the primary focus of the camp, but students have opportunities each day to participate in fun-filled competitions. This camp is led by US Varsity Basketball Coach Sean McDonnell.

    Individual skill development is a key component of our full-day basketball camp, but boys will also have several opportunities each day to participate in fun competitions as well as 5-on-5 league play. This camp is led by US Varsity Basketball Coach Sean McDonnell.
  • Freshman Basketball Boot Camp

    Sean McDonnell, US Varsity Basketball Coach, and his staff are excited to work with incoming freshmen who hope to play basketball at the high school level. This camp is designed to mirror the rigorous US varsity basketball practices. At the end of camp, each player will be provided with feedback that includes a schedule for both skill-based and strength-training opportunities over the summer that will be tailored to his ability level and goals.

  • Flag Football Camp

    Boys, Grades 1 - 6

    Dates: June 22 - June 25

    Learning and improving skills and techniques are important for football players at all levels of the game, including younger players excited to play flag football. This camp includes speed and agility training, position-specific instruction, and competitive drills that help develop talents. Camp days include exciting and competitive games that allow campers to practice the techniques they are developing. This camp is led by US varsity assistant head coach, Brian Kennedy, and camp staff includes other members of the coaching staff and current and former US players.
  • Middle School Tackle Football

    Boys, Grades 5 - 8

    Dates: June 4 - 5 and June 8 - 11
    Time: 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
    Location: Hunting Valley Campus
    Tuition: $275.00

    We are excited, once again, to host the only tackle football camp in Greater Cleveland for boys entering grades 5 - 8. Football is a contact sport, and proper preparation is essential. Led by US varsity football head coach, Ben Malbasa, the camp will include instruction in blocking and tackling, as well as skill development across position areas. This camp is strongly recommended for rising 5th- and 6th-grade students interested in playing in our Rookie Tackle program in the fall and rising 7th- and 8th-grade students planning to play middle school football. 

    Camp fees include the use of a helmet and shoulder pads, as well as the purchase of individual practice jerseys, practice pants, girdles, and mouthguards. 

    Please note camp begins on a Thursday so that all players have two days (6/5 and 6/6) for acclimation to equipment. Camp then resumes on Monday, June 9, for four days of practice.

    US soccer camps offer a fun, challenging environment where boys at all experience levels can develop their skills. Dynamic sessions concentrate on individual technical development and group tactical skills. The values of teamwork, respect, effort, and sportsmanship are incorporated into every session. Campers are grouped according to age and ability, with a 10:1 player-to-coach ratio. All sessions are directed by nationally-licensed US Varsity Soccer Coach John Ptacek and assisted by professionally-licensed former and current club, college, and high school coaches.

    This camp offers young tennis players beginner/intermediate instruction with an emphasis on stroke fundamentals of forehands, backhands, serves, volleys, and overheads. We will utilize tennis drills, games, and matchplay. Camp director Brian Perry is a former US Assistant Varsity tennis coach and current Varsity Swimming and Diving Coach. His tennis teams won two State Championships, and his Swimming and Diving teams have won ten State Championships. He has been coaching and teaching tennis players and swimmers for 35 years and uses his expertise with players to create learning experiences that are competitive and enjoyable for all abilities.
  • Advanced Tennis Camp

    This advanced camp is designed for players who have an interest in improving stroke production and match strategy. We will begin with a focus on fundamentals and drills and finish the week with a tournament. Camp director Brian Perry is a former US Assistant Varsity tennis coach and current Varsity Swimming and Diving Coach. His tennis teams won two State Championships and his Swimming and Diving teams have won ten State Championships. He has been coaching and teaching tennis players and swimmers for 35 years and uses his expertise with young players to create learning experiences that are competitive and enjoyable for all abilities. 

    Players will be separated by abilities, and in the final hour, advanced players will work on match strategy and prepare for their tournament.

  • Cross Country Camp

    Coed, Grades 7 - 9

    Dates: July 20 - 24

    In this fun, fast-paced camp, young runners are introduced to critical aspects of technique, training, and diet that will set them up for running success in high school and beyond. 

    Led by Jack Somers, head coach of US Varsity Cross Country, runners will enjoy the Hunting Valley Campus’s gorgeous forest trails and fabulous outdoor track on their daily runs and workouts. Workouts are designed to be helpful and engaging for runners at all levels of experience—from the beginner making his or her first foray into the world of cross country to the veteran with several years of running experience. Workouts will be interspersed with games, contests, and informational sessions to keep things interesting and lively. 

    Coach Somers has coached cross country for 18 years. In his time with the University School Cross Country Team, he led the team to the Regional Meet nine times and the State Meet five times. He has also coached two Regional champions. 



     
  • Lacrosse Camp

    Boys, Grades 5 - 8

    Join US Varsity Lacrosse Head Coach Mike Perrino and his players and staff from one of Ohio's strongest varsity programs for a fun-filled week of lacrosse! Campers will be divided into groups based on age and skill level. Individual instruction includes passing, catching, cradling, scooping, dodging, shooting, checking, and footwork. Team instruction focuses on both offensive and defensive play. Campers will also learn the fundamentals of box lacrosse. Throughout the week, campers will compete in various skill events. 

    Each player is responsible for bringing and wearing proper protective gear (helmet, shoulder pads, elbow pads, gloves, mouth guard), equipment (lacrosse stick, cleats), and tennis shoes in case of rain.
  • Track Skills Camp

    Coed, Grades 6 - 12

    Nothing replaces speed. In every sport, the fastest athletes have a significant competitive advantage. Speed and quickness are the focus of this camp, training aspiring young athletes in the proper mechanics and techniques that will link their current levels of strength, fitness, and coordination to performance in track and field. 

    The lead instructor, Nathan Taylor, is an Olympic coach who is internationally recognized as one of the top sprint coaches in the world. He's a certified World Athletics (formerly IAAF) Elite Coach and had 10 athletes at the 2016 Rio Olympic Games. Mr. Taylor is also an assistant coach for the University School Track and Field team.

    Swoosh Sports Camp is proud to enter its 25th year of exceptional youth multi-sports programming! Campers learn the fundamentals of various activities, participate in friendly competition, and have fun in a positive, nurturing environment. A daily rotating agenda gives campers opportunities to experience activities like soccer, basketball, capture the flag, dodgeball, flag football, floor hockey, tennis, lacrosse, track & field, and more! Campers thrive on our unique reward system that encourages each child to succeed. Team-building and leadership are also part of the experience. 

    *Morning and afternoon care are available for Swoosh Camps. Times are 8:00 - 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 - 4:00 p.m. The cost is $50/ week or daily rate can be pro-rated closer to camp start. 
  • Wrestling Camp

    Led by University School varsity wrestling assistant coach Matt McCarter and guest clinicians, this four-day camp will focus on wrestling technique, mental toughness, and strength training, all while having a great time in a supportive, high-energy environment. Boys must be between the ages of 10 - 18 and can be experienced or new wrestlers. No camp on 6/19.
