Sports Camps

US Sports Camps offer a challenging and safe environment where boys and girls can improve their skills, make new friends, and have fun! These camps are for beginning athletes looking for an introduction to a sport, or for student-athletes looking to take their talents to a higher level. Campers learn under the direction of US coaches and experienced athletes, and are grouped according to age and ability. Life values of teamwork, respect, effort and sportsmanship are staples of the US athletic program and are incorporated into every session.

  • US Basketball Camp

    For boys, grades 3-8

    Designed for boys as a full-day experience. Individual skill development is a key component of the camp, but boys also have several opportunities each day to participate in fun-filled competition as well as 5 on 5 league play.

  • Junior Basketball Camp

    For boys, grades K-2

    An introduction to the game for the youngest boys, with instruction on 7’ hoops. Foundational skill development is the primary focus of the camp, but the boys have opportunities each day to participate in fun-filled competitions.

  • Advanced Basketball Camp

    An introduction to the game at the high school level. Athletes participate in an intense, two-hour basketball experience that models a varsity practice. Each day has a developmental session that focuses on agility and explosiveness. Directed by varsity basketball Coach Sean McDonnell, whose experience includes 20 years of coaching college basketball and leading camps and clinics all over the world. Coach McDonnell helped develop six NBA players, three National Player of the Year candidates, and several All-America honorees.

  • All-Ohio Quarterback Clinic

    For boys, grades 7 & 8

    Dates: July 13-15
    Time: 9:00 am - 12:00 pm

    The quarterback position is one of the most demanding roles in all of team sports. Successful quarterback play requires precise footwork, focused eye discipline, and proper throwing mechanics. This is a very advanced and specialized quarterback training experience and is not for beginners. After focused fundamental work, quarterbacks will apply these skills in dynamic situations to develop each player’s decision-making skills. The clinic also includes film sessions for visual feedback and detailed coaching. US varsity football Coach Ben Malbasa directs the camp. In 12 years as a head coach, Coach Malbasa’s quarterbacks have earned All-Ohio status five times.

  • Football Camp

    Learning and improving skills and techniques are important for football players at all levels of the game. This camp includes speed and agility training, position-specific instruction, and competitive drills that help develop talents. Younger campers receive instruction in all positions, while older campers are able to focus on the positions they are likely to play during the upcoming season. Camp day concludes with exciting and competitive games that allow campers to practice the techniques they are developing. Camp staff includes US varsity coaching staff and current and former US players.

    Led by US teacher, coach, and former PGA Apprentice Brady Hurley, this camp is for beginner golfers who will learn the basic swing mechanics of driving, hitting from the fairway, pitching, chipping, sand shots, and putting. Proper golf etiquette, rules of the game, and club selection are taught. Campers have warm-up time, unlimited use of the driving range, and five 9-hole rounds at Shawnee Hills Golf Course. An instructor accompanies each foursome to reinforce proper swing mechanics, focus, and course etiquette.

    US soccer camps offer a fun, challenging environment where boys and girls from beginners to advanced can develop their skills in a learning environment. Dynamic sessions focus on personal technical development and group tactical skills. Life values of teamwork, respect, effort, and sportsmanship are incorporated into every session. Swimming and competitions daily. Campers are grouped according to age and ability, with a 10:1 player to coach ratio. All sessions are directed by nationally licensed Coach John Ptacek and assisted by some of the best professionally licensed former and current club, college, and high school coaches in Greater Cleveland. Grades 9-12 will be coached by a guest college coach.

  • Advanced Soccer Camp

    An advanced introduction to the game at the middle and high school levels. Players participate in an intense, 2 ½ hour soccer experience that challenges each player in the technical, tactical, physical, and psychological aspects of the game. Each session is designed to develop technical ability, tactical awareness, physical conditioning, and improve mental strength by introducing players into difficult, uncomfortable small-sided game-like situations where decisions need to be made quickly. Directed by nationally licensed varsity soccer Coach John Ptacek, whose experience includes 100+ wins and 5 District championships in 11 years, as well as helping develop two players who have gone on to play professionally and several DI, II and III NCAA players.

  • NEW Cross Country Clinic

    Coed, grades 5-9

    Dash into the fall cross country season primed for success! This camp is designed to help young runners improve their overall fitness and equip them with the knowledge, skills, and strategies they will need to run competitively in middle school and high school. Runners will learn crucial injury prevention techniques, sport-specific core strengthening exercises, and helpful information about diet. The week culminates in a 2-mile race on US’s legendary George Clements cross country course. Directed by Head US Cross Country Coach Jack Somers, who brings 14+ years of experience to cross country coaching. He has coached four State championship teams, two Regional champions, and a number of runners who have gone on to run successfully at the college level.

  • Lacrosse Camp

    With one of the strongest varsity programs in Ohio, US Coach Hans Rydquist and his staff look forward to a fun-filled week of lacrosse! Individual instruction includes passing, catching, cradling, scooping, dodging, shooting, checking, and footwork. Team instruction focuses on offensive and defensive play. Campers will be exposed to some of box lacrosse fundamentals. Campers are divided into groups based on age and skill level.

  • Hockey Camp

    For boys, grades 5-8

    Dates: Wednesdays, June 17th, 24th, July 8th, 15th, and 22th
    Time: 5:15 pm - 6:15 pm
    Location: Cleveland Heights Ice Rink
    Tuition: $125 (includes jersey)

    This camp offers youth players the chance to see what hockey is like at the high school level. Players compete in drills that mirror what the US hockey team does during their season. Drills emphasize skating, stick handling, and shooting. Each session consists of high-intensity drills that put players in game-like scenarios to improve decision making and comfort in different game situations. Players can highlight their skills during half ice 3v3 games and full ice 5v5 games. Camp will be directed by varsity hockey coach and the News-Herald Coach of the Year Andy Gerow and assisted by coaches from the US hockey program and varsity team members.

    Nothing replaces speed. In every sport, the fastest athletes have a significant competitive advantage. This camp focuses on teaching aspiring young athletes the proper mechanics and techniques that will link their current levels of strength, fitness, and coordination to performance in their chosen sport. Camp lead instructor, Nathan Taylor is an Olympic coach who is internationally recognized as one of the top sprint coaches in the world. He's a certified IAAF Elite Coach and had 10 athletes at the 2016 Rio Olympic Games and is also an assistant coach for the University School track and field team.

  • Squash Camp

    Squash is one of the fastest-growing sports at the middle and high school levels. This is the third ear for this popular camp run by local squash professionals. Instruction for the beginner who wants to learn about this exciting game, and for more experienced players who want to build their skills and take their game to the next level. All abilities are welcome. Participants will be divided by grade. Enrollment is limited to 8 players per division.

    There will be two sessions for the July camp:

    For upper school players on the C and developing teams and
    middle school players not on the national team.

    For upper school A and B players and for members of the middle school national team.

  • Swim! Bike! Run! Camp

    Explore the fun of all three sports and the joy of combining them! This camp is an opportunity to get your feet wet, chains greased, and running shoes broken in. Have you ever wondered what this "triathlon" thing is all about? You will be introduced to the basics and then put them together in our very own short triathlon. We will include clinics on each sport, have field trips off-campus, and enjoy scavenger hunts and workouts.
    Come join us for Week 2 if you have experience with triathlons at our camps and clubs, or in youth programs outside US, too! We will be building on our triathlon skills and distances and raising our challenge level. 
    Camp is led by seasoned triathlete and US teacher Elizabeth Chois.

    This exceptional youth multi-sports program will now be offered at US for summer 2020! Campers learn the fundamentals of various activities, participate in friendly competition and have fun in a positive, nurturing environment. A daily rotating agenda gives campers opportunities to experience traditional and non-traditional activities like soccer, basketball, capture the flag, dodgeball, flag football, floor hockey, tennis, lacrosse, track & field, and more! Campers thrive on our unique reward system that encourages each child to succeed with sportsmanship and heart. Teambuilding and leadership are also part of the experience. All participants will receive a Swoosh t-shirt, water bottle, and medal. Swimming daily!
