Sports Camps

US Sports Camps offer a challenging and safe environment where boys and girls can improve their skills, make new friends, and have fun! 

These camps are for beginning athletes looking for an introduction to a sport, or for student-athletes looking to take their talents to a higher level. Campers learn under the direction of US coaches and experienced athletes and are grouped according to age and ability. Life values of teamwork, respect, effort, and sportsmanship are staples of the US athletic program and are incorporated into every session.

  • Baseball Skills Camp- Pitching and Defense

  • Advanced 3 v 3 Skills Basketball Camp

    3x3 basketball is a form of the game played three a side on one basketball hoop. 3x3 is a great way to teach players how to attack with the dribble, how to move without the ball, and how to play individual and team defense in a fun setting. 3x3 provides players with far more opportunities to have an impact on a game than traditional 5x5 play.

    Become a part of US football! Learning and improving skills and techniques is important for football players at all levels of the game. The camp offers speed and agility training, position-specific instruction, and competitive drills that help campers develop their talents. Younger campers receive instruction across all position areas, while older campers are able to focus on the positions they are likely to play during the upcoming season. Camp sessions conclude with fun, competitive games that allow campers to practice the techniques they are developing. Our camp staff includes current and former University School players and our experienced varsity coaching staff.

  • Middle School Tackle Football

    Football is a contact sport, and proper preparation is essential. Players will focus on developing football fundamentals necessary for playing in the fall. Camp will include instruction in blocking and tackling, as well as skill development across position areas. This camp is strongly recommended for students planning to play middle school football in the fall. Camp fees include the use of a helmet and shoulder pads, as well the purchase of individual practice jerseys, practice pants, girdles, and mouthguards.

  • Lacrosse Camp

    Boys, grades 3 - 8

    Dates: June 8th - 11th

    With one of the strongest varsity programs in Ohio, US Coach Hans Rydquist and his staff look forward to a fun-filled week of lacrosse! Campers will be divided into groups based on age and skill level. Individual instruction includes passing, catching, cradling, scooping, dodging, shooting, checking, and footwork. Team instruction focuses on offensive and defensive play. Campers will be exposed to some box lacrosse fundamentals as well. Throughout the week, campers will have an opportunity to compete for prizes in various skill events.

    Each player is responsible for bringing and wearing proper protective gear (helmet, shoulder pads, elbow pads, gloves, mouth guard), equipment (lacrosse stick, cleats), and tennis shoes in case of rain. Hockey helmets, shoulder pads, and gloves are acceptable. Equipment can be rented from Step-In Sporting Goods in Chagrin Falls (440-247-9400). Campers bring their own bagged lunch and drinks. Coolers provided.

  • Cross Country Camp

    In this fun, fast-paced camp, young runners are introduced to critical aspects of technique, training, and diet that will set them up for running success in high school and beyond. Led by US head cross country Coach Jack Somers, runners can take advantage of the Hunting Valley campus’s gorgeous forest trails and fabulous outdoor track on their daily runs and workouts. Workouts are designed to be helpful and engaging for runners at all levels of experience from the beginner making his or her first foray into the world of cross country to the veteran with several years of running experience. Workouts will be interspersed with games, contests, and informational sessions to keep things interesting and lively. All you need to join us is a water bottle, running clothes, and a good pair of running shoes! Coach Somers has coached cross country at US for 15 years, and he has coached six Regional-qualifying teams, four State-qualifying teams, and two Regional champions in Division 1.

Speed and quickness will be the focus of this camp which trains aspiring young athletes the proper mechanics and techniques that will link their current levels of strength, fitness, and coordination to performance in their chosen sport. Camp lead instructor Nathan Taylor is an Olympic coach who is internationally recognized as one of the top sprint coaches in the world. He's a certified IAAF Elite Coach and had 10 athletes at the 2016 Rio Olympic Games and is also an assistant coach for the US track and field team.

  • Hockey Camp

    Boys, entering grades 5 - 8

    Time: 5:30-6:30 pm
    Location: Cleveland Heights Ice Rink
    Tuition: $125 (includes jersey)

    This camp offers youth players the chance to see what
    hockey is like at the high school level. Players will
    compete in drills that mirror what the US hockey team
    does during their season. Drills emphasize skating, stick
    handling, and shooting. Each session will consist of high-intensity drills that put players in game-like scenarios to improve decision-making and comfort in different game
    situations. Players will also get a chance to highlight
    their skills during half ice 3v3 games and full ice 5v5
    games. The camp will be directed by varsity hockey coach
    and News-Herald Coach of the Year Andy Gerow. Other
    staff will include coaches from the US hockey program
    and varsity team members.

    Learn the drills that will teach you how to improve your acceleration, maximum speed, and change of direction with a formula based on science and proven in the elite world of sport.

    The goal of speed camp is to help athletes get faster. Speed is a skill, and like any skill, you can improve it with training. Our speed formula is based on science and proven in the elite world of sport. During camp, you will learn the drills that will teach you how to improve your acceleration, maximum speed, and change of direction.

    Campers learn the fundamentals of age-appropriate training in preparation for the physical demands of sport utilizing the Block Zero training program. Areas of focus will include movement efficiency, mobility, relative strength, coordination, balance, speed, and endurance. Block Zero will help students prepare for the physical demands of sport and takes into account an athlete’s training age.
     
    Outcomes from the Block Zero program:
    • Acclimatization into an organized strength and conditioning program
    • Allows for a period of assessment and evaluation
    • Provides a conducive teaching environment for proper technique instruction
    • Injury prevention through evaluation and technique instruction

We will include clinics on each sport, have field trips off-campus, and enjoy scavenger hunts and workouts. The camp is led by seasoned triathlete and US teacher Elizabeth Chois.
