MIDDLE SCHOOL DEBATE CAMP
Enter the fun world of academic debate! Learn to speak in public, formulate arguments, find evidence, and refute opposing views. Each day we focus on a different controversial issue in the news. You will be given one-on-one instruction as you prepare your cases. Then you practice debating against other students and receive feedback on your performance in each round. The camp concludes with a tournament. The camp is led by US Coach Peter Paik, who is assisted by current and former members of the award-winning US Speech & Debate team.
HIGH SCHOOL DEBATE CAMP (INCLUDING SPEECH)
This camp is the only one of its kind in Ohio! New this year, we have added instruction in competitive speech events such as Oratory (Original, Informative, and Declamation) and Interpretation (Dramatic, Humorous, Duo, and Program Oral). Our debate division continues to focus on Public Forum and Lincoln-Douglas, the most popular forms of high school debate.
Our program is ideal for rising 9th graders who want to increase their chances of making their school's speech and debate team. It is also good for rising 10th, 11th, and 12th graders who want to improve their skills but aren’t able to attend a residential camp. Head debate instructors are US Speech and Debate Team Coaches Peter Paik and James Lewis, the best tandem of debate coaches in the state. The new speech division will be directed by Coach Ken Kasee of Chagrin Falls High School, which has one of the strongest speech programs in the district. Assistant instructors at the US Speech and Debate Camp will be former high school competitors who have achieved success in their events both locally and nationally.
